Marquisha Lu is a first-generation Singaporean Chinese diaspora, currently based in New York, NY. As a native Mandarin speaker, childhood experiences connecting language to identity and relationships influenced the nuanced way in which she portrays acts of communication in her works. Exploring dialogs - between painter and model, maker and viewer, with oneself or between friends - is at the essential core of each body of work. Primarily working as a figurative painter, she maintains a multi-disciplinary practice that explores the politics of charged bodies through sculpture, installation, performance and photography.
